How To Paint uPVC Windows and Doors

Over time, UPVC windows and doors can fade, discolour, or look outdated. Painting them offers a cost-effective way to refresh their appearance, boost curb appeal, and match changing home aesthetics.

What You Need:

  • Mild detergent or sugar soap, warm water, sponge, microfiber cloth
  • Masking tape, dust sheets
  • Fine-grit sandpaper (240-320), tack cloth
  • UPVC adhesion primer, UPVC-compatible paint (acrylic or solvent-based)
  • Brushes, small roller, or spray gun
  • Gloves & mask


Your Step-by-Step Guide


1. Clean the Surface

  • Wash with mild detergent or sugar soap.
  • Rinse and dry thoroughly.

2. Prepare the Area

  • Mask off glass, seals, and handles.
  • Lay down dust sheets.


3. Lightly Sand the UPVC

  • Use fine-grit sandpaper for better adhesion.
  • Wipe away dust with a tack cloth.


4. Apply Primer

  • Use a UPVC adhesion primer.
  • Apply a thin, even coat and let dry (2-4 hours).


5. Paint in Thin Layers

  • Apply UPVC paint with a brush, roller, or spray gun.
  • Let each coat dry fully before adding another.


6. Final Touches

  • Apply a second coat if needed. 
  • Remove masking tape and allow paint to cure (24-48 hours).
