Step 1: Clear and prepare the area
Move garden furniture, pots and any obstacles away from the fence or shed. Lay down dust sheets if needed to protect paving or decking.
Step 2: Clean the timber
Use a stiff outdoor brush to remove dirt, moss and loose debris. If heavily soiled, wash down with mild soapy water and rinse. Allow the wood to dry completely before painting.
Step 3: Stir the paint
Open the tin and stir thoroughly to ensure an even colour and consistency.
Step 4: Apply the first coat
Using a large fence brush or sprayer, apply the paint evenly along the grain of the wood. Work panel by panel and avoid overloading the brush to prevent drips.
Step 5: Allow to dry
Leave the first coat to dry as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Ensure no rain is forecast during this time.
Step 6: Apply the second coat
Apply a second coat in the same manner to enhance colour depth and durability.
Step 7: Final check
Inspect for missed spots and touch up if required. Clean brushes with warm soapy water.
